The Fireworks Galaxy (NGC 6946) and the Ghost Bush Cluster (NGC 6939) form one of the most striking deep-sky pairings in the constellation Cepheus. Although they appear close together in the night sky, they are separated by an enormous distance in space: NGC 6946 lies approximately 22 million light-years from Earth, while NGC 6939 is a relatively nearby open cluster only 3,800 light-years away. The Fireworks Galaxy is renowned for its exceptionally high rate of star formation and has hosted numerous observed supernovae over the past century, earning it its explosive nickname.

The Fireworks Galaxy was the very first galaxy I ever imaged, making this target especially meaningful to me. Although my first attempt looked nothing like the image presented here, I still remember the excitement of watching the galaxy gradually emerge on my computer screen during the live stack. That moment was a turning point in my astrophotography journey. Years later, I returned to the same object with more experience, improved equipment, and significantly more integration time. Despite being captured entirely under the heavily light-polluted skies of Athens, this has become one of the images that I enjoy the most. I hope to revisit the Fireworks Galaxy again in the future from a much darker location to reveal even more of its delicate structure and faint outer details.
